ATHOL - Rose (Vitello) Goddard, 82, of 998 New Sherborne Rd., Athol, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner.
She was born in Athol on June 27, 1926, the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Dominica (Depretro) Vitello.
She grew up in Athol and attended local schools, graduating from Athol High School with the class of 1943. She worked as a clerk and a cashier for many area businesses, including the former Stan's Supermarket in Athol, and the former Ligget Drugstore in Athol.
She was a member of the South Athol United Methodist Church. She was considered a hard worker throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada in the wintertime with her companion, Don. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, tending to her flower garden, and was an avid reader.
She leaves her companion of over 30 years, Donald J. LeBlanc of Athol; two sons, Dennis Goddard of Winterport, ME, Leslie Goddard of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Theresa Hardway and her husband Wayne of Florida, Mary Lily and her husband Walter of North Carolina; three brothers, Charlie Vitello and his wife Peggy, Peter Vitello and his wife Rachel, Cory Vitello, all of Florida; two grandchildren, Amy Goddard of Bucksport, ME, Dan Goddard and his wife Melissa of Quincy; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, will be in the spring.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
