ASHBURNHAM- Roy E. Harding, 96, died at his home on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 after being stricken ill. He was the husband of 66 years to the late Ella J. (Goguen) Harding, who died on August 2, 2014. Roy leaves one son, David W. Harding of Fitchburg; one daughter, Sandra E. Harding and her husband Al Johnson of West Townsend; four grandchildren, Mikaela, Noah, Gabriel, Krystle Harding; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son Alan R. Harding and six brothers, Kenneth Harding, Loring (Pat) Harding, Irving Harding, Donald Harding, Francis Harding and Warren (Cider) Harding. Roy was born in Gardner on September 6, 1924 a son of the late Walter and Cora (Bergevin) Harding. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Corporal. He worked for Harding Bros. Painting Co for many years. Roy also had worked at the former Gardner State Hospital and then the Rutland State Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Ashburnham, the V.F.W. 905 of Gardner, the Otter River sportsmen’s club and the NRA. He loved fishing, hunting, ice fishing and the outdoors. A graveside service with military honors will be held on August 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the New Cemetery, Ashburnham, MA. In lieu of flowers, if you wish memorial contributions can be made in Roy’s name to the Montachusett Veterans’ Outreach, 268 Central Street, Gardner.
