GARDNER- Roy W. Hopkins, "Papa", 88, of Gardner, died Friday, August 30, at Heywood Hospital, after an illness.
Roy was born October 9, 1930, in Winchendon, son of the late Roy W. Hopkins, Sr. and the late Bertha (Norcross) Hopkins and attended Gardner schools.
He served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1954, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Ovila Case VFW Post 905 and the Chestnut Street Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Edith (Irons) Hopkins; one son, Jeffrey A. Hopkins of Gardner; one daughter, Betsy Hall and her fiancé, Paul Kovacs of Gardner; two grandchildren, Mandy Gallant and Stefani Hall, both of Gardner; four great grandchildren, Kurtis, Annabelle, Kaiden, and Abbigail ; one sister, Virginia Gough of VA; nieces and nephews, David, Wayne, and Cynthia Gough, Michael, James, and Lori Hajdukiewicz, Linda, Gail, Charlene, Darlene, Barbie, Bob, and Debbie, all of Plymouth, MA; and special cousin, Marion Adams and her daughter, Deb.
Roy was predeceased by two sons, Steven P. Hopkins in 1981 and Robert R. Hopkins in 2004. He was also predeceased by his sister, Ruth Hajdukiewicz.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, September 5, from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. with the funeral starting at 1:00 P.M. in Mack Family Funeral Homes, Lamoreaux, Smith and Poliks Chapel, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Greenbower Cemetery.
