GARDNER- Roy D. Spofford, 95, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, November 17, in Wachusett Manor, after a brief illness. He was born May 31, 1919, in Gardner, son of the late Louis C. and Ida E. (Bergeron) Spofford. Mr. Spofford served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He worked for the Ramsdell Company for many years before attending the Gardner State Hospital Nursing School and becoming an LPN. Mr. Spofford worked at the former Gardner State Hospital for 15 years before his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor F. (Parmenter) Spofford. He leaves his nieces and nephews, Kenneth Spofford of Templeton, Anne Rivard of Lunenburg, Glenn Spofford of Black Canyon City, AZ, Joyce Allen of Kinnelon, NJ, Robert Spofford of Baldwinville, Shirley Ayles of Fitchburg, and Neil Spofford of Lake Elmo, MN; many great nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Thursday, November 20, at 10:30 A.M. in Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner, with a visitation preceding from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M. Burial with Military Honors, will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Gardner.
