Ruby L. (Butcher) Deleo

August 21, 1927 — June 22, 2015

Ruby L. Deleo, age 87, of Orange died Monday, June 22, 2015 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, MA.  Ruby was born August 21, 1927 in Athol, MA. She is the daughter of the late Samuel R. and the late Emma B. (Pynn) Butcher.  She married Rizerio J. “Reno” Deleo in 1951.   Ruby grew up in Athol graduating from Athol High School in 1947 and since 2007 has resided in Orange.  She and her husband spent winters in Silver Spring, Florida for 18 years. She worked in the family business for many years.  She and her husband operated the former Elray's Cabins on South Main Street for 25 years, a fruit and vegetable stand, used cars and a flea market. She had also worked for New England Telephone, N.D. Cass. Co., McElwain Shoe Shop and Union Tool in Orange.   Ruby was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening of all types especially flowers, enjoyed ceramics and flea markets. She is survived by her husband: Rizerio J.Deleo, one daughter; April Flagg and her husband John, Jr. of New Salem, MA, one son; James Deleo and his wife Susan of Orlando, FL, four grandchildren; Adam Deleo and his wife Kara, Matthew Deleo and significant other Tess , Jessica DeWitt and her husband James, Jennifer LePouttre and her husband Josh, eleven great grandchildren; Tyler, Trever, Brianne, Travis, Benjamin, Christian, Dawson, Kendall, Parker, Nicholas, and Rebecca, one sister-in-law; Stella Deleo of Athol, MA, and several nieces and nephews.. Predeceased by her great grandson, Austin, twin sister Ruth Carey, sister, Sue Zanelli, and brother, William Butcher. The funeral will be held Friday, June 26th at 11:00AM at Higgin's O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, MA with Rev. William Hobbs officiating.  Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours are Friday, June 26th from 9:30 to 11:00AM in the funeral home.
