GARDNER - Rudy R. Szoc, 87, of 10 Lennon Street, Gardner, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He was born on October 29, 1923 in Gardner the son of Alexander and Aniela (Borkowski) Szoc. He grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1941. He went on to graduate from Cushing Academy in 1942. Mr. Szoc was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 5, 1946. He was employed at Simplex Time Recorder as a machinist for over 35 years, he retired in 1988. Prior he owned and operated Louis Package Store on Main St. in Gardner. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Polish American Veterans, Gardner VFW, and the Polish American Citizens Club. Rudy was an avid fly fisherman; stamp collector and he enjoyed puzzles and cryptograms. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Alice M. (Kreminski) Szoc; one daughter, Mary Durant of Upton; two sons, Kenneth Szoc and his wife Doris of Londonderry NH; James Szoc and his wife Lori of Baldwinville; one sister, Virginia Bourgeois and her husband Donald of Hollywood, FL; three grandchildren, Erica Sanguinetti and her husband Italo of Naples, FL, Jeremy Szoc and his wife Elizabeth of Cliffwood, NJ,and Hayley Durant of Upton; two great grandchildren Ashley Szoc and Brisa Sanguinetti and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011, from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. in the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his memory to St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. $(document).ready(function(){ });
