GARDNER - Rudolph J. "Rudy" Gronowicz, 87 of 64 Ken Drive, Gardner, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at home. He was born in Gardner, on November 2, 1921, the son of the late Adam and the late Veronica (Kotoski) Gronowicz. He grew up in Gardner and was educated in Gardner. Mr. Gronowicz was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was sent to the Pacific Theater in December of 1943 where he was active in Luzon. He received the following decorations and citations the Good Conduct Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with battle star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with star, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Victory Medal and the Occupation Ribbon. Mr. Gronowicz worked at GEM Industries for many years retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Polish American Veterans, a member of the Gardner V.F.W. Post No. 905 and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Helen B. (Kosiewski) Gronowicz, one daughter, Patricia M. Tompkins and her husband James of Presque Isle, ME; one son, Michael J. Gronowicz of Gardner; one sister, Suzanne Young of Athol; one brother, Bernard Gronowicz of St. Petersburg, FL; two granddaughters, Emily Elie of Newburyport, MA and Hillary Hickey of Roslindale; two great grandchildren, James Elie and Madison Hickey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home 431 Pleasant St., Gardner.
