Ruth A. Fellows
Athol - Ruth A. (Choquette) Fellows, 80, of 30 Dinsmore Street, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Ruth was born February 1, 1932 in Athol, the daughter of Eugene and Nellie M. (Sampson) Choquette. She grew up and has lived in Athol all of her life, graduating from Athol High School in 1951, also attended Wachusett Community College.
Ruth worked at Grant’s Optical Shop part-time until her retirement. She had previously worked for Dr. Herbert Aaron for several years as a licensed Paraoptometric, and was manager at the former Skinner’s True Value Hardware. She was a noontime supervisor and tutored several subjects at the Silver Lake School for eight years, and was assistant manager at the former Mars Bargainland. Ruth also worked at the M.H .Fishman, W.T. Grant and the Frances Store.
She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church, serving as deaconess and also taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Athol Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, attended cancer support groups and the Healthy Heart Club at A.M.H., and served on the Traffic and Safety Committee. Ruth graduated from the Athol Police Department Citizens Academy, was a precinct representative and a den mother in Cub Scouting. She enjoyed exercising at the Y.M.C.A., playing tennis, enjoying walks with her husband, shopping, getting together with family and trips to the Cape to visit her son. Ruth was always one who enjoyed being with and working with people.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, Donald W. Fellows; a son, Robert W. Fellows of North Eastham; two sisters, Gladys Sinclair of Bradenton , FL, and Barbara Warner of Athol and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Lynn Fellows who died at birth; two brothers, Sheridan P. and Lloyd E. Choquette and two sisters, Irene Nadeau and Mildred Florence.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery and there will be a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
