ATHOL- Ruth Lorraine (Ward) MacEwen, of Athol, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 24.
Ruth was born July 27, 1930, in Phillipston, daughter of the late Ralph H. and Bessie L. (Dunn) Ward. Ruth shared her birthday with her daughter, Sue, a special blessing to both. She grew up in Phillipston and graduated from Athol High School in 1948. Ruth was a self employed care giver, caring for many elders for over 30 years.
Her love for the Lord led her on a continuous faith journey, telling everyone she met about her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Leominster Assembly of God Church where she served on the mission committee for six years. She had such a passion for animals, especially her cats, that the running joke was that she was part owner of Adams Animal Hospital. Years ago she was proud to volunteer for the Hearing Dog International in Tully. Ruth also loved ocean trips with her family and friends and walking daily.
She leaves her son, Robert LaFlamme and his partner, Carole Johnson of Athol; two daughters, Susan Britt and her husband, Ernest and Martha Carey and her husband, Brian, all of Athol; five grandchildren, Angela Littlewood, of Orange, Sarah LaFlamme and her boyfriend, Ryan Munnis, of Manchester, N.H., Jordan and Julia Carey, and Lexee Cote of Athol; two great grandchildren, Cole and Justin Littlewood. She also leaves cousins Bryan Ward of Phillipston and Betty Sadler of Montague.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 28, at 2:00 P.M. at Lower Cemetery in Phillipston, with Pastor Mark Bariloni officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athol Police Animal Control in care of Athol Police Station.
