LEOMINSTER- Ruth L. (Gagne) Soucy, 105, a lifelong Leominster resident, died Sunday, March 4, in her home, the same home in which she was born. She was a fiercely independent woman who despite the recent challenges with her sight and ambulation, refused to move from her home and managed to still function independently. She was always willing to find time to listen and offer a prayer. She was thrilled to be asked to raise the Leominster Centennial flag at city hall when she was 103.
She was born July 23, 1912, daughter of the late George J. and Cora L. (Murphy) Gagne. Ruth was dedicated to her family and was a caregiver to several over the years. Although never having children of her own, Ruth had special relationships with her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was a faith filled woman, attending church daily until recently. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Parish.
Her husband, Arthur J. Soucy, died in 1987. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Florence Beaudoin, Marjorie Liberatore, Rita Guertin, and Helen Currier.
The funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 10, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Friday, March 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M. at Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster.
