SEATTLE, WA-Sarah Ellen Tedford, 54, died January 27, 2021 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, following a short battle with a brain tumor. She was born in Lowell, MA, the daughter of James R. Tedford and Patricia (Jasper) Tedford. She grew up in Athol, MA attending local schools through grade 8, and attending Wyonegonic Camps in Denmark, ME for several summers as both camper and staff. It was at Wyo she developed a lasting love of hiking and other outdoor activities.
Sarah graduated from The Northfield Mount Hermon School, Northfield MA, in 1983. Her four years at NMH included a trimester abroad in Spain, and hosting a Spanish exchange student for a summer in Athol. Thus began her great love of travel and all things Spanish. In 1987 she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Tufts University in Medford, MA. Those studies included three semesters abroad in Spain.
Before beginning her travels, she lived at times in Newton, Stoughton and Sharon; also in Seattle more recently. Her various positions included: Social Worker for state of Massachusetts, Customer Service for Verizon, and an association with Rhys Thomas Institute of Energy Medicine where she was a student, then Teaching Assistant, and most recently, Virtual Assistant (a job she performed from all over the world). She traveled back and forth across the USA many times, and loved the south west, especially Tucson, AZ, Among the many countries she visited and/or lived in are Spain, Chile, India, Australia, Indonesia, and Costa Rica. Whether at home or traveling, she was always on the lookout for a contra dance, where she would be smiling as she moved to the music. She often attended weekend festivals like NEFFA and Dance Flurry.
Sarah was predeceased by cousins Barbara Bowen and Chase Miceli, aunt Eileen Jasper, uncle Glenn Tedford, and her grandparents. She was fortunate to have known, and be loved by all four of them before they died.
She is survived by her parents, brother James Jr., uncle John Jasper, aunts Diane McLaughlin, Ellen Tedford, Jane Jasper; also many cousins and their growing families. Sarah is also survived by beloved friends Martin Meo and Janice Lichtman, who she considered ‘her family’. They were her frequent traveling companions and dancing partners.
