Phillipston-Sheryl Ann Chalke, 60 died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at her home after an illness.
She leaves her son, Stephen Deninger of Wakefield; her mother, Sylvia Spring of Charlton; two brothers, Shane Chalke and his wife Monique of Banner Elk, NC and Stephen Chalke and his wife Karen Mayeda of Remington, VA; one sister, Lisa Smith and her husband Charles Fisher of Towaco, NJ: two nieces, Priscilla Chalke and Jillian Chalke both of Charlotte, NC.
Sheryl was born in Ayer on September 14, 1961, a daughter of the late James Chalke. She was a graduate of Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, she then graduated from Regis College in Weston with her bachelor's degree in English and later from American International College in Springfield with her master's degree in Education.
She worked as a reading specialist at Mary Rowlandson Elementary School and Luther Burbank Middle School in Lancaster. She was a talented and caring teacher, and she never hesitated to advocate for her students. After her retirement, she worked as a baker at The Kitchen Garden in Templeton.
In addition to teaching and baking, she enjoyed cooking, true crime shows, and reading young adult novels to recommend to her students, as well as mysteries and local ghost stories for herself. When she wasn't at home or at work, she loved to explore New England with her friends or hang out at their favorite restaurants.
There are no funeral services planned at this time.
A Celebration of Sheryl's life is planned for a future date.
