Shirley Chambers

ATHOL - Shirley Chambers, age 82, of Athol died Saturday, July 29, 2017 at her home. Shirley was born November 25, 1934 in Waltham. She is the daughter of the late Walter and the late Anna W. (Upham) Clarke. She grew up in Waltham, graduating from Waltham High school in 1952 and attended Boston University night school from 1952 until 1953. She was employed at the U.S. Navy Department of Naval Personnel in Washington DC and earned the Outstanding Performance Award. She worked for the U.S. Army at Ft. Hayes in Columbus,OH, Ohio State University Research Foundation, and at Dynamic Corporation in Mountmorenci, IN, as an executive secretary for 14 years. Shirley was a member of the Athol Friends of the Council on Aging, the Athol Historical Society and the Phillipston Historical Society. She had a love of music and plants and enjoyed her home in Athol and her friends and family. She is survived by one daughter: Deborah Chambers of Indianapolis, IN, and one brother: Robert G. Clarke and his wife Anne of Wilmington, NC. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Glen Valley Cemetery, Barre.
