Shirley M. (Brow) Hendren

Shirley Mary (Brow) Hendren, 86, recently of Leominster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Gardner, at the home of her son and caregiver, David, following a brief illness.

Born to Felix and Laura (Morel) Brow on June 28, 1936, in Albany, Vermont, she was the tenth of eleven children. Shirley graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Newport, Vermont, with the Class of 1954 and, immediately following her graduation, moved to Leominster, following the paths of her brothers John, Richard, and Felix “Pic”. In Leominster, she met David L. Hendren, a soldier stationed at Fort Devens, and, on October 9, 1960, they married and then raised four children, David “Larry” Jr., Chris, Todd, and Donna. She later worked for many years at Bradlees Department Store, Leominster.

Shirley was a Parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church, Leominster, and volunteered for many years at its weekly Bingo. She enjoyed square dancing, camping, bowling, crocheting, crossword and picture puzzles, table games with family, and regular Thursday night activities with friends. She was a member of the Franco-American War Veterans, Inc., Leominster, and a longtime member of Curves Health & Fitness Club, Leominster.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, David; two sons, David, Jr., and Todd; a daughter, Donna Boucher; sons-in-law Leo Boucher and Alan Agnelli; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hendren; grandchildren Jonathon Hendren and his wife, Meghan; and, Erica Boucher and Matthew Boucher; great-granddaughters Abigail and Maddison Hendren; and, many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and close friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Chris, who died in 2000; and, her siblings Louis, Raymond, Paul, Eva, John, Robert, Felix “Pic”, Bertha, Richard, and Frederick.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Leominster, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association; the National Kidney Foundation; or, a charity of one’s choice. Please reference In Memory of Shirley Hendren.
