Petersham- Shirley (Preble) LaPointe, 85, of Petersham, passed away unexpectedly in Heywood Hospital on July 12, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born in Petersham March 17, 1928, where she lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Frances (Yonker) Preble.
Shirley attended school in Petersham graduating in 1946. She worked at Harvard Forest as a lab assistant for many years. She was a police matron and an EMT for the town of Petersham. She ran the summer playground program in Petersham for many years and was an art instructor at the Eagle Hill School in Hardwick; and worked at the former White Pillars Restaurant in Petersham.
Shirley enjoyed being around her family and will always be remembered by being a wonderful grandmother by her grandchildren. she enjoyed gardening, reading, and relaxing by the ocean.
Shirley leaves behind two daughters; Marilyn Dodd and her husband Douglas of Ohio, and Melissa Clark and her husband Richard of Petersham with whom she lived, one son-in-law; Bruce Farley of Athol, six grandchildren; Nicholas, Abigail, and Christopher Dodd of Ohio, Samatha Farley of Athol, and Megan and Ryan Clark of Petersham, one great-grandchild, Ella Dodd of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo J. LaPointe (1996) and her daughter Michelle Farley (1986).
Calling hours will be held from the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Rd. Orange, MA on Tuesday July 16th, 2013 from 5:00pm-8:00pm
. A mass of christian burial will be held on Wednesday July17th, 2013 in St. Peter’s Church 18 North Main St. Petersham, MA. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery, Petersham, MA.
