Shirley M. Safford

SHIRLEY M. (WHITMORE) SAFFORD ATHOL- Shirley M. (Whitmore) Safford, 76, of 163 Main Street, died Saturday, April 20, 2002 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, following an illness. Her husband, Arthur Safford, died in 1983. She leaves a son, John Guyer, III of Athol; two daughters, Patricia Forcier and her husband Norton of Zephyrhills, Florida and Dianna McGivern and her husband Harold, and their daughter, Sandra Strong, with whom she lived; a sister, Beverly Adams and her husband Roger of Missouri; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her four brothers, Charles Whitmore, Kenneth Whitmore, Robert Whitmore, and William Whitmore. Born in Athol, April 19, 1926, a daughter of Charles and Ethel Whitmore, she had lived several years in Phillipston before moving back to Athol. She attended Athol schools. Mrs. Safford was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and loved her dogs. Calling hours at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home are Tuesday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2002 at 10 a.m. in Lower Cemetery, Phillipston. $(document).ready(function(){ });
