GARNDER - Sidney M. “Sid” Walker, 93, of Gardner formerly of Westminster died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus of Worcester.
He was born June 12, 1923 in Gardner, the son of the late Albert R. and the late Ruth L. (Hurd) Walker. Sid grew up in Westminster and graduated from Gardner High School.
Mr. Walker was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Sid was employed as a welder for over 50 years at Crocker Burbank Paper Mill, Weyerhauser and James River. He was a member of the Westminster Congregational Church, a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the American Legion in Westminster and a member of the Westminster Historical Society.
He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Finish Folk Dancers (Revontulet) and he was a member of the Walk-n-Mass a Volkssport Walking Group.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Myrtle L. (Mayo) Walker; two daughters, Nancy R. Gundersen and her husband David of Hubbardston; Barbara J. Walker of Westminster; two sons, James M. Walker of Westminster, Richard B. Walker and his wife Theresa of Gardner; one brother, James Walker of Westminster; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Westminster Congregational Church, 138 Main St., Westminster. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Westminster.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lamoureux-Fletcher & Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Congregational Church - Memorial Fund, 138 Main St., or to the Westminster Historical Society, 110 Main St., both in Westminster, MA 01473.
