Sister Marie-Claire Desrosiers, 88, of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, of North Main Street, died Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Assumption Residence after a short illness. Formerly known as Sister Claire-de-Marie, she professed 63 years of religious vows.
Born in Greenville, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Fernand and Ducilda (Belanger) Desrosiers. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Rivier College and a master's degree from Providence College. Sister taught the primary grades in several places including Southbridge, Northbridge, Spencer and Uxbridge. For the remainder of her religious life she performed varied community services: caring for the sick, tending the garden and participating in the prayer ministry.
In addition to her sisters in community, Sr. Marie Claire is survived by a brother, Frederick of North Miami, FL; a sister, Rose Marie Richardson of Aurora, CO as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother and a sister.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Assumption Residence Chapel, 211 N. Main St., Petersham. Burial will be at the East Street Cemetery, Petersham. Calling hours at the Residence are Tuesday, October 3, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, MA 01366.
