PETERSHAM - Sister Germaine Duchesneau, age 88, of the Sisters of the Assumption, died peacefully May 12, 2009 at Assumption Residence, in Petersham, MA after a short illness. Formerly known as Sister Germaine-de-Jesus, she professed 66 years of religious vows.
Born in Barton, VT, she was the daughter of Euclide and Rosana (Blais) Duchesneau. Sr. Germaine obtained a bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington and a master's degree from Boston College. She taught for 27 years in Secondary Education; 11 years in Religious Education; 12 years in Adult education and 4 years in community leadership and group leadership.
In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. in Assumption Residence Chapel. Burial will be in East Street Cemetery, Petersham. Calling hours at the Residence are on Friday, May 15 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, 211 North Main Street, Petersham, MA 01366.
