PETERSHAM - Sister Anita Fafard, 96 of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the Marie Esther Health Center, Marlboro, MA.
Sister Anita was formerly known as Sister St. Joseph d'Avila. She professed 75 years of religious vows.
Born in Nasonville, R.I., she was the daughter of Horace and Alva (Marcil) Fafard.
For 31 years, Sister Anita was parish organist, directed choirs, taught piano and music in various parochial schools in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and New York. She also served as convent superior for fiver years.
In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 16, 2009, at 10 a.m.in Assumpton Residence Chapel. Burial will be in East Street Cemetery, Petersham, MA.
Calling hours at Assumption Residence will be on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption, 211 North Main St., Petersham, MA 01366.
