Sister Loretta Monette

PETERSHAM - Sister Loretta Monette, age 88, a Sister of the Assumption of Petersham, MA, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 following a long illness at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough, MA. Born in Lowell, MA, she was the daughter of Hector and Laura (Chasse) Monette and attended Saint Louis Academy with her twin sister, the late Sr. Rita Monette. At age 21, both twins joined the community of the Sisters of the Assumption. Annhurst College of Putnam, CT granted Sr. Loretta her Bachelor's degree and she continued to pursue higher education in Theology at Providence College in Rhode Island. Sister Loretta will be remembered fondly by former students in Spencer and Southbridge, MA, where she served as teacher and principal. In later years while in Laconia and Gonic, NH, she was an active member of the Religious Education Team for more than twenty years. Sister Loretta is survived by one brother, Maurice Monette of Lowell, MA; two sisters, Sr. Beatrice and Sr. Lucille Monette both community members of the Sisters of the Assumption of Petersham and several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved companions of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption. Family and friends will be welcomed to the Wake at Assumption Residence from 2 to 7 pm on Sunday, May 2, with a special Prayer Service at 3:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Monday, May 3 will take place in the chapel of Assumption Residence. Burial in the East Street Cemetery will follow immediately after the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, 211 N. Main St., Petersham, MA 01366. The J.
