Sister Luce Moreau

The Sisters of the Assumption of Petersham mourn the loss of Sister Luce Moreau, age 95, who passed away peacefully at Assumption Residence, December 23, 2009. Sister Luce, formerly known by her religious name of Sister Saint-Pierre d'Avila, was born the daughter of George and Rose Delima (Hudon) Moreau of l'Islet, Quebec. The family came to settle in St. Joseph Parish of Salem, MA where Luce received her elementary and secondary education. In 1939, she professed her religious vows as a Sister of the Assumption. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Annhurst College of Putnam, CT and continued higher education as a Theology student at St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT. As a teacher, Sr. Luce specialized in Junior High Education and exercised her leadership qualities in administration. She will be remembered by former pupils in the parochial schools of Glens Falls and Hudson Falls, NY, Laconia, NH, Lowell and Southbridge, MA and Barton, VT. Sr. Luce is survived by several nieces and nephews and her beloved companions of the Sisters of the Assumption. Her wake will take place at Assumption Residence, 211 North Main Street, Petersham, on Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the special prayer service at 3:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2009 in the community chapel of Assumption Residence in Petersham followed by interment in the East Street Cemetery of Petersham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, 211 North Main Street, Petersham, MA 01366. $(document).ready(function(){ });
