Sister Dorothy Paradis

The Sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of their dear companion, Sister Dorothy Paradis who passed away while under the care of her loving companions on February 2, 2011. Sister Dorothy was 87 years of age, a native of Dracut, MA and was born the daughter of Charles Honore and Laura (Fluet) Paradis. She graduated from St. Louis Academy in Lowell, MA and became a professed member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption on August 14, 1947. The students of Maria Assumpta Academy of Petersham, MA will remember her as Sister Laura-de-Jesus for she served 33 years of her professional life as music teacher and activities director at AMA. In later years, Sister was stationed in Brockton and Lowell, MA. In 2009, Sr. Dorothy retired at Assumption Residence, Petersham to receive the medical care needed in her declining years. It was in 2010 that she lost her sister, Dora Paradis, the well-known hair stylist and the last member of her immediate family. Sr. Dorothy is survived by the beloved members of her religious family, the Sisters of the Assumption and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitors will be welcomed to her wake at 211 N. Main Street, Petersham, between 2 and 7 PM on Friday, February 4, 2011 with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Interment will follow in the East Street Cemetery of Petersham.
