GARDNER — Sophie J. (Astromecki) Brunell, 97, of Gardner, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born November 12, 1918, in Gardner, daughter of the late Frank and Blanche (Piascik) Astromecki. She lived in Gardner all of her life. She worked at Goodnow Pearson’s department store for 15 years and Del’s Smoke Shop for 18 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the St. Joseph Women’s Guild. Sophie enjoyed arts and crafts.
Her husband of 48 years, Erving L. Brunell, died in 1992. She was also predeceased by a brother, Stanley Astromecki, and a sister, Irene Walet. She leaves a daughter, Linda Bates of Londonderry, New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Evelyn Morris of Gardner; several nieces and nephews including, Chuck Morris of Gardner; close friends, Gerald and Angela Casey of Gardner, Linda Francoer of Westminster, and Gloria Bourrgeois.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will be private
