Sophie Fiorentino

ATHOL - Sophie (Pierszalowski) Fiorentino, 82, of 46 J. Street, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the Highlands Life Care Facility, Fitchburg. She was born in Athol, on Nov. 21, 1924, the daughter of the late Felix and the late Sophie (Waslaske) Pierszalowski. Sophie grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1942. She was employed as office manager/dental assistant for Dr. Talcott in Athol for two years after graduating high school. Sophie worked as a teller at the First National Bank in Athol then graduated from Forsythe Dental in Boston and worked for a dental office there before marrying. Sophie raised her family with Edward Fiorentino in Lynnfield. She was the campaign treasurer for Massachusetts Governor Edward J. King. After his election she became his Executive Secretary at the Office of the Governor in the State House for his term as Governor. As a resident of Athol for the past 20 years, Sophie was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Lithuania. She leaves one daughter, Laurianne Fiorentino of Santa Fe, New Mexico; five sons, William Fiorentino and his wife, Mary, and their children Nino, Eben and Patrick of Kodiak, Alaska; Peter Fiorentino and his son, Peter, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; John Fiorentino of Kodiak, Alaska; Joseph Fiorentino and his wife, Denise, and their children Christy, Jennifer, Amanda, April, Christopher and John of Andover; David Fiorentino of Epsom, N.H.; one daughter in-law, Myrella Fiorentino and her children Christopher and Carl of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; a brother, William Pierszalowski and his wife Sophie, of North Ridge, Calif. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Fiorentino; her son, Michael Fiorentino and a brother, Raymond Pierszalowski. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion Albert A. Kanash who died in 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
