Sophie L. Melanson

GARDNER- Sophie L. (Lore) Melanson 92, of Gardner died Sunday, May 13, 2018 in Heywood Hospital. She was born in Gardner on April 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Carlo Lore and the late Lucia (Vinzi) Lore. Sophie grew up in Gardner and was educated in Gardner. She worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone, AT&T, and retired from Verizon after 32 years in 1985. Sophie was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed doing crafts, cooking, knitting and crocheting. She leaves two daughters Christina Monfette of Gardner, Joanna LaPrade and her husband Dean of Westminster; two sons Philip Melanson and his wife Nancy of Gardner, Thomas Melanson of Gardner; two sisters Louise Gallant of Winchendon, Frances Horrigan of Winchendon; one brother Michael Lore of Gardner; four grandchildren, Zachary Monfette, Ryan Benoit, Joseph LaPrade, Julia LaPrade and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Joseph N. Melanson who died in 2008; by four sisters, Angelina Belanger, Mary Oliva, Lucille Amadon, Dolores Wetmore; and by three brothers Philip Lore, Anthony Lore and Martin Lore. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11 AM in the Lamoureux– Smith & Poliks Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 from 9:30 AM to 11 AM in the funeral home.
