Sr. Evangeline Dufault

PETERSHAM - Sister Evangeline Dufault, age 88, of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin died May 30, 2008, at Assumption Residence, 211 North Main Street, Petersham, MA after a long illness. Formerly known as Sister Saint Evangeline, she professed 66 years of religious vows. Born in Brockton, MA, she was the daughter of Alphonse and Evangeline (LeBlanc) Dufault. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by William Dufault and Noelia (Allaire) Dufault. Sr. Evangeline obtained a bachelor's degree from Rivier College and a master's degree from Boston College. She attended various colleges for summer sessions. For 31 years, she taught in varied parochial schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. From 1972 to 1984, she cared for her elderly parents. From 1985 to 1990, she returned to teaching in Brockton. In 1991, Sr. Evangeline engaged in community service for several years before going to Elkton, MD where she helped her widowed sister, Leonille Blair. In addition to her Sisters in the community, she is survived by one brother, Robert Dufault of Colorado Springs, CO, several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces as well as, Oakley Blair, Leonille's stepson and his wife, Barbara of Leesburg, VA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 5, at 10:00 AM in Assumption Residence Chapel. Burial will be in East Street Cemetery, Petersham. Calling hours at the Residence are on Wednesday, June 4 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, MA 01366.
