Sr. Jeannette Gagnon

PETERSHAM - Sister Jeannette Gagnon, 86, formerly known as Sister Marie de Lisieux of the Sisters of the Assumption of Petersham, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 following a brief illness. A native of Salem, MA, she was the beloved daughter of Ovila and Marie (Fournier) Gagnon. A graduate of Rivier College, Sr. Jeannette majored in Business Education. As a High School teacher, she prepared countless young students for successful positions in the financial world. She will be fondly remembered where she taught in Meriden and Bristol CT, in Laconia NH and in Southbridge, Chicopee Falls, Lowell and Salem, MA. When she retired from the classroom, she became Activities Director and chauffeur for her companions of Assumption Residence. Nieces and nephews grieve her passing as do the members of her religious family, the Sisters of the Assumption. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at the Assumption Residence, 211 North Main St., Petersham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the chapel of Assumption Residence on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, 211 North Main St., Petersham, MA 01366.
