Sr. Gertrude Guillet

PETERSHAM - Sr. Gertrude Guillet, 97 of the Sisters of the Assumption, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her sisters, Friday, October 16, 2009 at Assumption Residence, Petersham, MA after a short illness. Formerly known by the name of Sister Gertrude de l'Assomption, she was a professed religious for the past 72 years. Born in Sacred Heart Parish in Southbridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Gelas Guillet and the late Graziella (Paquette) Guillet. For several years, she was a devoted staff member of the Communications Office at the Mother House in Nicolet, Quebec and later served as Parish Secretary in the Office of Notre Dame Parish in her native town of Southbridge, MA. In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by several nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 2 - 7 pm at Assumption Residence with a prayer service at 3:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 19, 2009 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Assumption Residence, 211 N. Main St. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, 211 North Main St., Petersham, MA 01366.
