PETERSHAM - Sr. Beatrice Lachapelle, 99, of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin of North Main Street, Petersham, died Monday, August 21, 2006 at Assumption Residence after a short illness. Formerly known as Sister Julienne-de-Jesus, she professed 76 years of religious vows.
Born in Millbury, MA, Sr. Beatrice was the daughter of the late Noe and Antonia (Lamoureux) Lachapelle. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI and pursued graduate studies at Rivier College and Anna Maria College. She was a certified teacher for the states of New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
After 53 years as an educator in elementary schools, Sr. Beatrice ministered to the homebound before retiring to Assumption Residence to perform community services and to devote herself to a ministry of prayer.
Sr. Beatrice was predeceased by twenty of her siblings. In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her brother Russell, of Ocala, Florida and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Assumption Residence Chapel, 211 North Main St., Petersham. Burial will follow in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham. Calling hours at the Residence are Wednesday, August 23, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, MA 01366-0128.
