PETERSHAM -- Sister Jeannette Lavoie, of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Mary Esther Health Center, Marlboro after a long illness. Formerly known as Sister Rene Marie, she professed 55 years of religious vows.
Born in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of Rene and Elvina (Levesque) Lavoie. Sister spent 41 years teaching in schools staffed by the Sisters of the Assumption in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. Sister Jeannette was provincial superior from 1973 to 1979. Due to illness in 1992, she became a patient at Assumption Residence Wellness Center in Petersham.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. in Assumption Residence Chapel. Burial will be in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham.
Calling hours at the Assumption Residence, 211 North Main St., will be on Friday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, MA 01366.
