PETERSHAM - Sister Edith Simoneau, 92, of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin died August 11, 2007, at Assumption Residence after a long illness. Formerly known as Sister Sainte-Armande, she professed 71 years of religious vows.
Born is Laconia, N.H., she was the daughter of Albert and Marie Louise (Hupe) Simoneau. Sister spent 34 years teaching the primary grades K-3 in parish schools staffed by the Sisters of the Assumption in Chicopee Falls and Brockton, Ma., glens Falls, N.Y. and in Trois-Rivieres, P.Q. She went to Laconia N.H. in 1970 where she served as sacristan for 18 years. Upon her retirement to Assumption Residence, Sr. Edith performed community services and was given to the ministry of prayer.
In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by her brothers Edgar of Pittsfield, N.H., Clement of Sanford, Me. and her sisters Annette Lozier of Florida, Loretta Armadorff, Irene Wilkie, Henriette Miller and Theresa Whitcher, all from Plymouth, N.H., as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her brothers Roland, Conrad, Albert, Richard and Gerard Simoneau and her sisters Armande Logan, Pauline, Gertrude and Simone Simoneau have predeceased her.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Assumption Residence Chapel. Burial will be in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham.
Calling hours at the Residence are on Thursday, August 16, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, Ma. 01366.
