GARDNER – Stanley Harrington, of Chapel Street, Gardner, formerly of Royalston, went to be with the Lord Jesus on September 16, 2017. He died at Heywood Hospital from complications of pneumonia. He was surrounded by family and friends. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
He was born on April 15, 1938 in the old Winchendon Hospital to Pearl and Arthur Harrington. He lived at the Harrington Dairy Farm in Royalston. They sold milk to the Gardner Creamery, Merrifields in Athol, and Peterson’s Dairy in Royalston. This was their means of putting food on the table and raising a large family.
Stanley along with his brothers and sisters, worked on the farm for many years with their hard working parents. Farming on a small scale is not easy, but the Harringtons have farmed in Royalston for at least four generations. Later in life he stayed for many years with Janet and Linwood Lapointe and the Roy Campbell family and these were especially happy years in his life. He then moved to his present home on Chapel Street in Gardner.
He leaves two brother s, Raleigh and his wife Martha of Gardner and Roger of Royalston, two sisters Virginia Moore of Royalston and Shirley Greenwood and her husband Allan of Templeton, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Howard, Glenn, Edward, Kenneth, and David and his sister, Goldie.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 10:00 to 11:00am at the funeral home.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 11:00am at Higgin's O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, with Pastor Timothy Oja officiating.
Burial will follow in Lawrence Brook Cemetery, Royalston. A fellowship will follow at the Second Congregational Church of Royalston.
