ORANGE - Stanley W. Roberts, 79, of 41 Rosemont Ave., Orange, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester.
He was born in Chelsea, MA, on December 22, 1930, the son of the late Stanley W. and the late Elizabeth F. (O'Brien) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts grew up in Royalston and Athol, graduating from Athol High School with the class of 1948. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Robert K. Huntington from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955.
He was a former resident of Royalston and lived in Athol for sixty years, before moving to Orange twenty-four years ago. He worked as a machine operator at the former Union Twist Drill for ten years and was Plant Manager of the former Union Tool in Orange for nine years. More recently, Mr. Roberts was an assembler for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company in Athol for eight years.
He leaves his wife of twenty-six years, Mary R. (Ciervo) (Chesley) Roberts; two daughters, Julianne Matthews and Jani L. Fox, both of Athol; one son, F. Thomas Roberts of Orange; two sisters, Barbara Torchia and Elizabeth Peterson, both of Athol; two step sons, Alfred R. Chesley of Spofford, NH, Harry E. Chesley of Charlton, NH; three step daughters, Hazel E. Waslaske of Athol, Ida M. O'Brien of Templeton, Marie Dio of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Roland Jr., Lisa Marie, Brianna, Kelsey, Roy Jr., Sara, Rachel; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, will be held at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Lung Association of Central MA, One Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346.
