GARDNER - Stephen Walker Brown Jr, age 56, passed away from cardiac arrest on Thursday August 10, 2017. Steve was born on December 14, 1960 in Fitchburg to Stephen Walker Brown Sr and Katherine (Matesowicz) Brown. He grew up in Townsend, MA and graduated in 1978 from North Middlesex Regional High School and moved to Gardner, MA in 1982 to attend MWCC. He graduated with an associates degree in business management in 1984. He married his wife of 27 years, Stacie (Herr) Brown, in August of 1990. They lived in Gardner where they raised their three children: Stephen Walker Brown III, Trevor Austin Brown, and Camden Herr Brown.
Steve was a real estate guru who worked as a property manager for 10 years taking care of the multiple properties he owned throughout the greater Worcester area. He was also into restoring and flipping classic cars with his sons. Steve was an avid sports fan. Like an encyclopedia, he could rattle off the stats and scores of every player and game since he was old enough to comprehend them. On top of his ability to recall past games, he was one of the greatest sports minds around. With over 100 Little League wins and 7 championships, his strategic ability to think outside the box was unprecedented. He was very involved with Gardner Little League as a coach for 10 years, board member for 6 years and umpire for 2 years. Steve also coached his sons to multiple championships and undefeated seasons in basketball, street hockey, and football.
Steve had an incredible sense of humor. He could spin any bad situation into a good laugh. He was incredibly intelligent, thriving in math and US history. It was impressive to watch him calculate any problem in his head at a moments notice (even faster than his son, who is a math teacher). He was one of the most generous and charitable people you would ever meet. Whether someone needed advice, work done, or a donation, Steve was willing to help out. He always put his own interests second. His joy came from helping others and that is one of the many reasons he was beloved by so many.
Steve was a great Father, great coach, and an even better man; he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, brother Wayne Brown, sister Cheryl Testa, four nephews and one niece.
