Dr. Stephen G. Thompson
Boston – Dr. Stephen G. Thompson, D.C., 69, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Carney Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.
Stephen (Doc) was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, November 21, 1944, the son of Hubert (Tommy) and Patricia Curfew Thompson. He grew up in the Tully section of Orange, graduating from Ralph C. Mahar in 1962. He then went on to attend college in New York City to obtain his chiropractic degree. Following his graduation in 1966 he started his practice in Athol.
Stephen moved to Boston and established and operated Ashmont Chiropractic Center for over 40 years. He was an avid traveler, a gentleman farmer and appreciated all types of building projects, loved cooking and entertaining and long winters on the beach in Florida, but his most treasured activity was spending time with all of his family. He had an undeniable sense of humor and always enjoyed a good practical joke. In addition to his work as a chiropractor, he took on the challenge of restoring the former Worrick Table Factory to the Tully Mill Pond Restaurant as well as restoring the farm house on Royalston Road. Stephen was a member of the North Quabbin Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M.
Stephen leaves a son, Tobias G. Thompson of Boston; three daughters, Tempie Jane Thompson and her husband Ken of East Greenwich, RI, Olivia and Sophia Thompson, both of Boston; two grandchildren, Jack and Piper (Tempie’s children); his siblings, Virginia Jones and her late husband Bruce and John Thompson and his wife Rita, both of Tully, Benjamin Thompson and his wife Brady of Athol and Jennifer Arbour and her husband Michael of Union, ME. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his beloved Nancy Lynn.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Church of North Orange and Tully, 4 Cremery Hill Road, North Orange with the Rev. Don Erickson, pastor officiating. A Masonic Service will be held during the service conducted by St. John’s Lodge of Boston. There will also be a memorial service scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2014 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet Street, Dorchester, MA. Burial will be at the Tully Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in Stephen’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
