Athol – Susan Cherise (Amidon) Ledgard, 66 formerly of 108 Kelton Street, died at Quabbin Valley Healthcare on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 after a battle with dementia, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born on January 27, 1950 in Gardner, the daughter of Ernest Amidon and the late Beverly Sendrowski (Hanes). Susan grew up in Phillipston attending local schools. She graduated from high school and went on to become a licensed hair dresser where she worked in a local beauty shop for many years on a part time basis while raising her children. She later ran Teeples Messenger service with her partner then joined her husband and extended family at Eddie’s Restaurant, which opened in 1994.
Susan survived her late husband John P. Ledgard, Sr. with whom she was married to for 37 years. They enjoyed a happy life traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her MeMe. She was always taking care of the one’s she loved, coined as Nurse Susie; knitting and crocheting blankets, hats and mittens not only for her family, but those in need.
Susan leaves her children: son: John P. Ledgard, Jr. and his wife, Maria; daughter: Tracy J. (Ledgard) Kenniff; her father: Ernest Amidon of Gardner; three brothers: Ernest (Tim) Amidon of Arizona, Seth Amidon of MA, Lee Amidon of Yorkshire, England; one sister: Jane (Amidon) Lefrancois of Florida; five grandchildren: Michael (her best buddy), Rachel, Madelynn, Samantha and Matthew and so many extended relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016, 10:30 am at Gethsemane Cemetery in Athol with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) at www.alzfdn.org in memory of Susan.
