Athol – Suzanne P. (Dunbar) Lees, 69, of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, died March 30, 2011, at the Morton Plant Mease Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
She was born in Ware, Massachusetts, July 25, 1941 the daughter of Elbridge and Lois (Paige) Dunbar. She grew up in New Salem, graduating from New Salem Academy in 1959. She later moved to Athol where she lived until 1984, also living in Virginia, Indonesia, and Hong Kong for two years returning to Phillipston in 1986 and since 2003 has resided in Athol.
Suzanne purchased the Fox Run Restaurant in Phillipston in 1986 which she operated until 2001. She also waitressed at the Fox Run for many years and was advertising director while living in Indonesia and Hong Kong.
She was a member of the Central Congregational Church of New Salem and a former member of North Quabbin Bible Church, Petersham Curling Club, Athol Women’s Club and the New Salem Red Hat Society. Suzanne enjoyed gardening, bible study, oil and water painting and her dog Allie, but most especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She leaves her husband Joseph T. Lees; two sons, Christopher Thibeault and his wife Darlene of Athol and Richard Thibeault and his wife Susan of Ashburnham; her grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Justine and Alex Thibeault, Amy and David Phelps; five great grandchildren and a sister, Kathlyn “Tiffy†McCarthy and her husband Ed of Bucyrus, OH. She also leaves her longtime friend, Alan E. Hooley of Athol.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at the Central Congregational Church of New Salem, South Main Street, New Salem, MA with the Rev. Chris Raker, pastor officiating. Calling hours will be Friday, April 15, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery in New Salem. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to: to: the Salvation Army-Athol Corps, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol, MA 01331.
