GARDNER - Suzette E. Croteau, 98, of Gardner, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home on August 4th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born the daughter of Alexandre and Diana (Houde) Royer on May 17th, 1926, in St Jacques, Quebec. 

Suzette worked as an upholsterer at FA Nichols, O’Hearns, and Rousseau Brothers. She also waitressed at the Teen Age Campus where she met the love of her life, Gregoire, who passed away on May 29, 2015. They were married on Oct. 14, 1950, and celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Suzette was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She was a devote Catholic and was always willing to lend a helping hand to her church and community.

She was very proud of her children and all of their accomplishments. She owned and operated Sue Anne’s Religious Gift Shop for 40 years. She babysat not only her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also many friends’ children. 

Suzette was known for her delicious cakes for every occasion, which spanned over 45 years.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting and spending time with the family. She was known for her delicious meat pies during the Christmas holiday. 

Suzette is survived by her six children, Leonard Croteau and his wife Nancy of Westminster, Denise Pelletier and her husband Kenneth of Gardner, Russell Croteau and his wife Mary of Gardner, Jean Paul Croteau and his wife Jean of Templeton, Francis Croteau and his wife Odalys of Ashburnham, and Gregory Croteau and his partner Sarah Howard of Lunenburg, MA. Suzette has 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

Suzette was the last surviving member of the large Royer family being predeceased by 3 brothers, Gille, Damien and Harold and predeceased by 6 sisters, Benoite Brassard, Monique Alton, Jeanne Desroisier, Grace Cormier, Aline Richard and Leatrice Jaillet.

Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the care received by Beacon Hospice staff and the night nursing staff during her time at home. You all made our mother’s last days at home much brighter and comfortable up until her passing. For that, we are very grateful and appreciative.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:30 am in Annunciation Parish – Holy Rosary Church 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4- 7 pm in the Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family School 99 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Please reference in memory of Suzette E. Croteau.
