Sylvia E. (Cole) Cole

Sylvia E. Cole Baldwinville – Sylvia E. Cole, 87, of 51 Hospital Road, formerly of Athol and Northampton died Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Baldwinville Nursing Home.      Sylvia was born in Athol, Massachusetts, October 2, 1924, the daughter of James W. and Anna M. (Silsby) Cole.  She grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1943 and from Franklin County Public School of Nursing in 1946.  She served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps during the Korean War for two years and the Air Force Reserve 104th Dispensary at Barnes Air Force Base in Westfield for four years.        Sylvia worked as a registered nurse at Wesson Memorial Hospital in Springfield, was the head nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital maternity ward for 15 years, also working at the Northampton State Hospital and the Holyoke Soldiers Home for several years, retiring in 1987.  She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in East Hampton,  and was a former member of Bible Baptist Church in Northampton for 25 years.  While a member of Bible Baptist Church she was very active in the choir, also serving on several church committees.   She was a member of the American Red Cross, Northampton Chapter.        She leaves a son, Robert Doucette of Manchester, NH and her church family and friends at Covenant Evangelical Church in Barre and the Baldwinville Nursing Home.        A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Silver Lake Cemetery (entrance of Lenox St. & Horrigan Ave.) with the Rev.
