ATHOL – Sylvia M. (Morris) Hamel, 71 of 55 Grove St., Athol, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at home, surrounded by her sons and daughters-in-law.
Sylvia was born on February 16, 1946 in Gardner and grew up in Ashburnham.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond J. Hamel. She leaves behind two sons: Raymond Hamel Jr. and his longtime girlfriend Andrea Brooks of Orange and Jerry L. Hamel and his wife Tammie A. Hamel of Athol.
Sylvia came from a large family of brothers, sisters and step siblings, cousins and many friends she loved like family. She also had many nephews and nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Jaylene and Stephen Hubbard and their children of Indiana.
Sylvia was employed for a longtime by the State of MA at the Walter E. Fernald School in Templeton as a cook. She also worked for many years at the Athol High School cafeteria. Sylvia enjoyed many things, especially spending time with her family, taking walks out at the various gates of the Quabbin Reservoir, Lake Dennison areas in Baldwinville, MA. She loved anything related to nature, her flower garden and pets, helping to protect and preserve all animals from harm. Sylvia will be remembered and miss greatly by all!

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, Ma.
A calling hour will be held from 3:00pm – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
