ASHBURNHAM/WINCHENDON — Thelma (Newton) Neuvonen, 87, of Winchendon, formerly of Lashua Rd., Ashburnham, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Broadview Assisted Living in Winchendon, after a short illness.
She was born July 7, 1924, in New Salem, daughter of the late Fay and Rieta (Sawtell) Newton.
She was a graduate of Gardner High School and the Leominster School of Nursing. Mrs. Neuvonen worked at the former Collins Rest Home in Ashburnham and also did home health care. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, camping, traveling, including several trips to Finland. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #142 in Ashburnham, AARP Forever Young Club of Ashburnham, and the Finnish Center at Saima Park.
Her husband, Tauno “Tart†Neuvonen, died January 15, 2005.
She leaves four brothers, Avery Newton of Gardner, Lyle Newton of Rindge, NH, Merl Newton of Athol, and Wayne Newton of Methuen; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and two great great nephews; and many friends at Broadview.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 7, at 11:00 A.M. in New Cemetery, Ashburnham.
There are no calling hours.
