Therese E. (Poitras) Walsh, 78, of 30 Memorial Drive, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She was born in Rumford, Maine, October 23, 1934, the daughter of Charlie and Alice (Parent) Poitras. She grew up in Madawaska and Lewiston, ME, attending schools in Madawaska and Waterville, graduating from St. Dominic High School in 1952. She then went on to St. Joseph's College in Windham, ME where she received her Bachelor's Degree, then to the University of Maine receiving her Master's Degree and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies. She has lived in Orange for over 30 years.
Therese worked as a school teacher, guidance counselor and school psychologist. She taught in Old Town, ME, Biddeford, ME and Lawrence, MA. She was a guidance counselor in VanBuren, ME and at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT and at Narragansett Regional High School for 25 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, the Massachusetts Teacher's Association and the Massachusetts Guidance Counselor's Association. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially on cruise ships and was an avid reader.
She leaves her husband of 40 years, John H. Walsh; a brother, Gerard Poitras and his wife Linda of Auburn, MA and uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews and several cousins in Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol with the Rev. Fr. Krzysztof Korcz, pastor of Our lady Immaculate Church, officiating Private burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery at a later date.
