TEMPLETON - Thomas J. Balling, Jr., age 63, of Templeton died Thursday,
September 11, 2014 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA
surrounded by family and friends.
Thomas was born July 10, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas
J. Sr. and the late Ella F. (Crabbe) Lowry. He grew up in Columbus,
graduated from Central High School and served in the Air Force for four years
during the Vietnam War era. He was very proud of his military service.
Tom and Vaunie met in 1976, knew each other for 1 month, then married and were
happily married for 38 wonderful years. He was a wonderful husband, excellent
father and a loving Pappaw to his grandchildren.
Tom always enjoyed woodworking and spend many years in the wood finishing industry, most recently at Chilmark Architectural Woodworking of Worcester, MA.
He was a member of the Baldwinville American Legion and worked hard to support
his fellow veterans and regretted he didn't have more time for this worthy cause.
He is survived by his wife, Vaunie B. (Hinty) Balling; one daughter, Tammy
J. Balling and her husband Jeffrey Vansky of Kenton, OH; two sons, Edward
Paul Shrum of Templeton, Thomas J. Balling III of Templeton; one sister,
Teresa A. Hosfelt of Columbus, OH; three brothers, Tony J. Balling of Columbus,
OH, Mark E. Balling of Columbus, OH, Dennis L. Balling and his wife Sharon of
Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren, Colton Paul Shrum, Cheyanne Desire Vansky,
Brayden Balling and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in
the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.
