GARDNER, MA - Thomas Bryan Johnson, 31, of 38 Stuart Street, Gardner, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from injuries sustained on Route 2 in Lancaster, MA. Tom was born in Torrington, CT, on July 27, 1979 and moved to St. Clair, Michigan, with his family when he was seven years old. Upon his graduation from St. Clair High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1997 to 2001. Tom was a chef for the Commanding Officer of Parris Island, SC. He was an exceptional cook and proudly prepared the Marine Corps birthday cake which was presented to the White House for their celebration for four consecutive years. After serving in the military, Tom moved to Marlboro, MA and worked for the Best Western Hotel for a year as their kitchen manager. He resided in Worcester, MA, and Manchester, NH before starting his own business, Artistic Tile & Design, now Semper Fi Flooring & Renovations, and settled in Gardner about four years ago. He did volunteer work for the Veterans Administration's Housing Center in Roxbury part time after starting his flooring and tiling company. Tom was beloved member of the Gardner Ale House's Mug Club (#169) and befriended many patrons as if he was a member of their own families. He enjoyed life and being around his family and friends. Tom leaves his father, Richard "Ric" Johnson and his partner Patty Mini of Shelby Township, MI; his mother, Katherine (Trush) Roza and her husband Martin of Lake Elsinore, CA; his significant other, Jennifer Cullen of Gardner; his twin brother, Jim Johnson and his companion Carleen Lee of Voluntown, CT; his sister, Amanda Gurne and her husband Kevin of Roseville, MI; and his maternal grandparents, Taras and Ann Trush of New Boston, MI. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. A reception will follow at the Gardner Ale House, 74 Parker Street, Gardner. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, 268 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440. $(document).ready(function(){ });
