ORANGE - Thomas E. Moore, 81, of 383 East River Street, Orange, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester.
He was born in Templeton on July 8, 1927, the son of the late Walter and the late Bridgett A. (O'Brien) Moore.
Mr. Moore grew up in Baldwinville and attended local schools, where he played on the football and basketball teams. He then joined the United States Navy and served from January 4, 1945 to July 17, 1946 during World War II, receiving the American Theatre Medal, the Victory Medal, and the European Theatre Medal.
Mr. Moore graduated from the Fisher Business College in Somerville. He worked as a stock trader for over thirty years in Boston and on Wall Street, before his retirement in 1993. He traveled to many places during his career including California, Florida, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, and Virginia. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Christine (Rimsa) Moore; two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Ann Parillo and her husband Guy of North Port, FL, Mary Jo Bynum and her husband Charles of Apex, NC; one son, James Thomas Moore and his wife Kathy of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Graham.
A private burial will be held in the spring at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.
