TEMPLETON - Timothy P. Scanlan, 50 of Templeton, lost his life after a brave battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at home with his loving wife, family and friends by his side.
Tim was born in Athol, MA, on July 9, 1963, the son of the late Joseph Scanlan and the late Patricia (Leonard) Whitman.
Tim grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1981. He also attended college in New Hampshire. He has worked for Pete's Tire Barn in Gardner for the past 27 years where he was awarded Top Manager and received many awards. He loved his job, his co-workers and all his customers. They too were like family to him.
Tim was a member of the Winchendon Golf School Club and loved his Sunday morning golf game with his wife, his son-in-law AJ and his good friend Randy .He was a season ticket holder of the New England Patriots and attended many games with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing softball, candlepin bowling and most of all spending time with family and friends and taking family vacations every year.
He will be sadly missed by his wife: Tina(Skamarycz) Scanlan,whom he cherished. Tim also leaves his beloved daughter: Tiffany Scanlan-Houle and her husband Arthur (AJ) of Gardner; his step daughter Amanda Cronin and her husband Michael of Worcester, two sisters; Dede Labonte and her husband Brian of Webster and Mary "Nikki" Whitman of Westminster; two brothers: Daniel Scanlan of Springfield and Paul "Punky" Whitman of Athol.; two grandchildren: Aidan Houle and Gavin Cronin; many aunts,uncles. nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents: Joseph in 1976, Patricia in 2012; his step-father Paul Whitman Jr. in 2001; his maternal grandparents: Frederick and Margaret (Murphy) Leonard; his brother Kevin Scanlan in 2001 and his nephew Lawrence "Little Larry" Skamarycz in 2008.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday February 23, 2014 at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road, Orange from 3pm to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 10:00 am in the funeral Home. Following cremation, burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
The family is asking that flowers be omitted and donations in Tim’s name be sent to help his 10 year old cousin Maddison Dube who is battling Ewings Sarcoma Cancer at: Pennies for Maddie, c/o TD Bank 470 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or may be left at the funeral home.
