V. Poshkus

ATHOL-Genovefa V. "Jennie" (Gatautis) Poshkus, 79, of 68 Forest Ave., died Monday, May 27, 2002 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare. Her husband of 51 years, Anthony Poshkus, predeceased her in 1992. She was born in Athol, October 13, 1921, daughter of Joseph and Veronica (Morkunaite) Gatautis, and was a lifelong resident of town. Mrs. Poshkus worked for the Webster Sole Company and later for Katz Women's Clothier for many years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and its Women's Guild, the Knights of Lithuania, the Golden Agers, and the AARP. She loved to travel and was an avid reader. She leaves eight nieces, Gail Gatautis of Amarillo, Texas; Kathy Urenda of Hurst, Texas; Jean Churchill of Methuen, MA; Joanne Costello, Nancy Pye and Claire McGrath, all of Brockton, MA; Regina Poshkus of East Bridgewater, MA; and Louella Keay of Middleborough; MA; five nephews, Robert Gatautis of Royalston, MA; Richard Gatautis of Phillipston, MA; Ronald Gatautis of Athol; Gordon Pike of Brockton, MA; and Nicholas Poshkus of New York; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Gatautis, Jr., Bronislaus "Bernie" Gatautis, and Anthony Gatautis, all of Athol. The funeral will be held Thursday from the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 105 Main Street. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home.
