WINCHENDON/ASHBURNHAM- Valerie J. Carter, age 60, of Sunset Lake died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at home. She was born October 16, 1954 in Queens, NY. She is the daughter of the late Harry Whitney and the late Ethel May (Crane) Carter.   Valerie graduated from Fitchburg High School with the class of 1972.  She graduated from Fitchburg State College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree and in 1979 with a Master’s Degree in psychology.  She continued her education by receiving a certificate of advanced graduate study in school psychology in 1994. Valerie was employed by the Fitchburg School System as a School Psychologist. She moved to Massachusetts in 1965.  She had an immense love of animals, especially her dogs, Max and Sunny, and her cat, Drizzy.  She was very generous and she loved football, especially the Patriots.  She loved her lakefront home and Mount Wachusett Community College Fitness Center because it gave her the ability to swim year round.  She was a breast and vocal cord cancer survivor.  She was an independent woman and did all of her home repair herself. She is survived by: one brother: Wayne Carter of Athol, three half sisters, Carol Lindberg of Lunenburg, Gail Syrjala and husband Russ of FL, Ruth Carter-Wierenga of Lynn and several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Valerie is predeceased by her sister, Lorraine "Lori" Carter Long, and her half-brother, Lorne Carter. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 AM in Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. A calling hour will precede the memorial service Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home.
