ATHOL - Valment J. Godin, age 90, of Athol died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Heywood Hospital Gardner.
He was born April 8, 1925 in Shippegan, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Clement J. and the late Laura (Mallet) Godin. He moved to Athol from Canada when he was three years old.
Mr. Godin was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marines.
He worked at the Union Twist Drill Company for 35 years retiring in 1985. He also sold real estate with his brother at Godin Real Estate for 28 years.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was also an honorary life member. He was a member of the VFW, and the former Petersham Country Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and walking. He especially enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Duplessie and her husband Richard of Athol, three sons, Ronald Godin and his companion Jean Lawrence of Erving, Steven Godin and his companion Mary Field of Northfield, Scott Godin of Athol; one sister: Annette Rogman and her husband Leroy of Elgin, IL; one brother Girard “Jerry” Godin and his wife Frances of Athol; a sister in-law, Dot Godin of Athol; four grandchildren; Christine O’Brien, Tyler Duplessie; Laura Godin, Emily Godin; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Ryleigh, Kaylee, Owen and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Lillian M. (Mailloux) Godin who died in 2009 and by his brother Wilbert Godin who died in 2014.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial with military honors will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
